Explore historical sites with the  Cobb Scavenger Hunt 

The Cobb Scavenger Hunt is a fun activity that guides participants on a tour of Cobb County’s historic landmarks and buildings. This year, because of the pandemic, the activity’s creators modified the scavenger hunt so it can be enjoyed without leaving your car. Simply follow the guide on the scavenger hunt website and learn about the history of each featured landmark, plus information on where you can park to best enjoy the view. 

Enjoy Streaming Storytime with the little ones

The Fulton County Library System holds an online Streaming Storytime event, where kids of all ages can listen to two to three stories every day. The schedule for the streaming can be found at the library’s website, along with information on other activities and virtual events for kids, such as Build a Snowman Online Craft and Imagination Station. In addition, you can check out books online for yourself or your kids from the thousands of titles in the system’s digital library. 

Play an escape room game online or in person

The Escape Game Atlanta has reopened but still offers remote games for those who want to play in the comfort of their homes. The TEG Virtual Adventures offer the same fun and excitement of a regular escape room adventure but completely done online. You can organize a game with friends and book a virtual escape room, making it a great way to stay connected while observing social distancing.  If you want a personal escape room adventure, TEG offers all private experiences where only you and your friends can be in the room. All spaces are misted with medical-grade disinfectant between each cycle of games.

Visit the Georgia Aquarium virtually

The Georgia Aquarium has reopened to the public with safety protocols in place, such as limiting the number of guests and requiring visitors to wear a mask. Entry is allowed in 30 minute time slots, and visitors need to make a prior reservation.  You can also choose to do a virtual tour instead of a physical visit. The Georgia Aquarium website features a page that streams live videos of various exhibits captured by webcams at the facility. There’s a Piranha Webcam, Indo-Pacific Barrier Reef Webcam, Gator Crossing Webcam, and more. It’s the next best thing to seeing the aquarium’s water creatures in person. 

Paint pottery at home

Just Kiln Time is Atlanta’s oldest “paint your own pottery” studio. While they are now open to the public with limited seating, you can also purchase a kit from their storefront or online store to bring home and indulge in hours of pottery painting. When you’re done, you can bring the painted piece back to the studio for glazing and firing. 

Go on a picnic at the park

Being out in nature is a great way to relax and have fun with the family while making sure everyone stays safe. Cobb County operates 44 facilities covering 1,350 acres. The outdoor parks have not been closed, while facilities like tennis, aquatic, and recreation centers have recently reopened with safety protocols in place.  Many restaurants in the area have also reopened or offer pick-up or delivery service. Order takeout and have a picnic with the family at a park, surrounded by refreshing green open spaces. There’s probably no better way to beat stress at these times, and there’s plenty of open space for everyone to observe social distancing.

Let kids play and learn with the Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s virtual activities

The Children’s Museum of Atlanta has reopened in July with COVID-19 protocols in place, such as requiring guests two years old and above to wear masks, setting up hand sanitizing stations, and limiting the number of guests at any given time to allow social distancing. Areas where social distancing is difficult to implement, such as the Climber and the Globe, have remained close.  Your kids can continue enjoying the museum’s online classes and activities featured on their Facebook page.
